I have noticed that the sheep blowfly (Lucilia Cuprina) seems to be on a lot of flowers these days so they would be fulfilling some sort of pollination function.
I only ever saw them around sheep when on the farm, the flies that were annoying in the house were the old brown bombers and the little black bush flies.
Now that I am in town it's the sheep blowflies that are the nuisance, getting into the house.
The Lucilia Cuprina seems to have a sweet tooth and gets into the green waste bins after fruit and fruit peels, they then lay their maggots and by the time the garbage man comes around they are crawling out onto the ground to pupate.
So, they are at plague proportions in town, breeding in the green waste bins, they then look for nectar in the flowers.
