Hi SBL holders,
Warning ... old time, long COLCOM post (you will be lucky enough not to have had one yet):
I've got some gaps in my understanding that you might help to fill.
First though, let me say that I support shareholder activity to ensure their/our rights are considered, and to hold management to account. If there's one thing I hate, its poor management. And .. being bent when I'd prefer to stand...
And while I've thrown a few posts out at the SBL MD and board over the last year or so, I really don't have the full picture yet here.
The question I have is: while the efforts of those on HC to team up will I believe have an effect, its the actions of the other institutional investors that will give you cause for confidence.
First, has there been a concerted effort to gain their views? It shouldn't be too hard to nominate a 'group' representative and go and have a chat to the CEO's of the companies on the register.
There can be lessons from the Libyan opposition here...
Second, is there any VSA (volume spread analysis) gurus who could point to a higher likelihood possibility on the institutional play?
From what I understand, the big spikes in share price over the last year or so - often which signal a trend reversal - are when the institutionals get on board. Sure, they will hold or sell to suit themselves/(their clients), and not that there's anything wrong with that.
From the quick glance that I've had, the big moves were on:
- 3 September 2010 = 28.3m @ (0.017- 0.020)
- 5 Oct 2010 = 35.2m @ (0.022-0.024)
- The more recent jump I got excited about, on 25 July 2011, with 50.2m @ (0.020-0.023).
Sells were pretty spectacular on 2 May 2011 though, with 94.6m @ (0.028-0.025)
I don't have a great handle on the VSA business, but doesn't this give some indication that the bigger holders of the stock (!MIGHT!) not be prepared to accept this bid because it would be at a loss.
Now, you'd think the board members would have canvassed this on the sly, so maybe I'm wrong. And that 94.6m sell is another factor. But I don't know enough to call, and I wonder if some of the VSA punters have seen this sort of thing and factored it into their charting before?
If there's any advice from posters from the 'Institutional Play' perspective I'd love to hear it. CEBonomics perhaps from a TA perspective. I know Zia would have some thoughts on POG from an institutional perspective. Plenty of others will have a wealth of experience, but I'm really kee to keep the 'with us or against us' arguements in other threadss if that's OK?
By the way, I fully support the efforts of the more impassioned stockholders ... there seems plenty of threads going to keep those views though, and since I'm undecided, it would be pollution on my part to jump in (just yet).
Finally, my apologies: because if the thread gets taken up I'll only get a chance to jump in every night or second night. I have fish to fry.
