Can you imagine if they have to review all NSW mining licences back to 1999!
I wonder if this ICAC inquiry will lead to them looking into corruption in other states?
Is there any smoke in any of the other states about mining licences awarded in the last 15 odd years? I find it hard to believe the other states are squeaky clean. I would think that WA would need a close look.
And people say that investing in the third world is risky.
I guess they could simply take the approach they took with the banks implicated in the GFC and simply say that prosecuting a crime would cause too much havoc but IMO this would be an error of judgement. If you let people profit from the proceeds of crime once, they will do it again with increasing confidence.
