IMO I believe this diaspora is different, but one can argue that the latest arrival is always viewed with more xenophobia than the one before, almost as if the previous perceived threat is extinguished as someone 'new ' arrives.
Definitely the wogs arriving in the 50s copped a fair bit, as did the vietnamese a little later. Both these groups have largely assimilated IMO.(Im a wog btw)Both arrived from woeful living arrangements amidst civil war. Neither brought their war with them. What makes the islamic arrivals any different and in particular what drives the few causing unacceptable rubbish ? Heres my list of reasons;
-Religiously opposed- 2 monotheistic religions just dont mix, particularly when one group seeks to be governed by same religion. The minority religion will wave its fists to stay alive. These fists normally wave from minority individuals , perhaps low S/E, perhaps easily swayed individuals, regardless they are representatives of their faith and their faith should therefore deal with them.
-Historically driven- the use of previous conflict from previous generations as reason to fight and violently protest. ( A strongly fundamentalist education or active propaganda can facilitate this) Quoting wars gone by in lands far away as an excuse isnt good enough. TBH , when one makes their Australian citizenship pledge they should relinquish feelings of ill will as a result of previous conflict IMO
-Frustration with ones own indoctrination- this I believe is partly sub-conscious. Some of these young men talk of the disgust they have for western ideals and lifestyle, I cant help that this is deep seeded jealousy of western freedoms which are unavailable to them as fundamentalist muslims. Something they cant have, so neither can anyone else.
- Availability of propaganda content via the tech age.
Not enough done by senior Muslim figures to reign in their scum element. IMO. Not enough at all.

The Vietnamese did not assimilate
The earlier IE 50s - 60s were manly from Christian based countries, countries that had similar social standards and laws as Australia and from my experience although they were inclined to racists the vast majority had a strong desire to be Aussies
The recent lot have none of these attributes and don't want to learn them, and they have an attitude of "we have rights" and "you have to look after us" which earlier migrants did not have
It is interesting that the earliest Asian arrivals, the gold seeking Chinese had a rough time but became good strong Australian's, so dissimilar groups can do it but they have to first want to do it and want to be part of Australian life
