A quick look at history will show that the Japanese and Chinese had already agreed on terms for a Japanese surrender. USA couldn’t agree because they weren’t willing to keep any form of Japanese government in place. Bomb dropped. A year of negotiations lost in a second. The lesson is choose who you surrender to.
There’s no right and wrong here. Just lessons to be learnt. The Japanese wiped out the Chinese again and again. The Vietnamese even sent them home with the tail between the legs.
