In my view, this will become a trend, with some companies developing their own Small Language Models (SLMs) for local or private use. More complex tasks will still utilise cloud-based LLMs. Essentially, these SLMs are optimised versions of LLMs, which aligns perfectly with whatAppleAppen's LLM platform aims to achieve. Additionally, Appen holds a minority interest in Reka AI, further highlighting the industry's move towards tailored and efficient language model solutions.
