Anvil Mining Plans Mines to Double Copper Production in Congo

Nov. 2 (Bloomberg) -- Anvil Mining NL, an Australian copper
miner, plans to double production in 18 months by starting two
projects in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The West Perth-company is talking with Congolese state-owned
miner Gecamines to acquire property in the south of the country,
said Bill Turner, Anvil's President. Anvil also plans to begin
cobalt mining in the next two years
``We hope to finalize the deal shortly,'' Turner said at the
Minesite Mining Forum in London. ``We are going to move quickly
and have these two projects up and running by the end of next
year.''
Anvil mines 20,000 metric tons of copper and 1.6 million
ounces of silver a year from its Dikulushi project in southern
Congo. Global demand for copper in products such as electrical
wire and water pipes will expand 6.6 percent this year to 16.5
million tons, exceeding production by 603,000 tons, Barclays
Capital forecast last month.
