IMHO theren is a difference between saying "Bush single handedly destroying the American Financial system and the quote actually made by Dave which was "Rupublicans (Liberals in Australia) under Mr Bush destroyed the American financial system and almost brought the whole world financial system down with them". One sentence attributes the entire blame on Bush the other attributes the blame on the Republicans under Bush's leadership.
If a poster quotes another poster it is best if it is done verbatim as otherwise it gan give an unintended interpretation as ocurred in this instance.
