Alan Matthews is the MD of Starcom WA part of the very large starcom mediavest group in turn owned by Publicis media worldwide group. I am trying to figure out how this works. MCU acquires a small branch of one of the largest media planning/buying groups in the world and issues the announcement after market Friday without naming company names or much about the details....the details by the way add 6% to total MCU billings, a substantial figure in one bite.

I figure Starcom WA is under independent ownership/management but uses the Starcom name and buying leverage for a fee. This appears to be the start of some industry heavyweights consolidation and its all a bit secret squirrel.

On face value appears to be an absolute coup by hiring the MD and his company comes with him. I figure global majors don't mind losing some business to an independent local like MCU but they wouldn't sell out to another global competitor. Australia is not the main game for these majors so MCU may do very well with like throwaway acquisitions over the next 12 months.
