Those who belong to the faith of solar power and AGW are implacable. Even if one agrees with them on an issue, if one doesn't agree slavishly with their "creed", one is still incorrect, and they are the new Messiahs. My Idea of continuous solar power is to have three satellites with solar cell arrays, in stationary orbit, and beam the collected power down to collectors in nice dry place like the various deserts. This has been met with cries of derision every time I have mentioned it. This would have to be a global effort. Our atmosphere is an impedance to solar radiation. Its problem may be cooking birds, but not as bad as the wind powered Bird Abattoirs they are installing around our coastal areas. The birds roost on the collectors for warmth, and as well as getting cooked, crap on them. The trick is to make the collectors live, this gives the birds a "hot-foot" so they shoot through.

I spent a lifetime of installing, servicing, and modifying various items of mechanical, electro-mechanical ,and electronic equipment. Thus I fully believe, that the only thing that never breaks down is probably a pet rock. Every damn thing has a MTBF rating. Most failures occur within the first year. After that most electronic components are good for 8 - 10 years. ie. the dud/marginal components have been sorted out. As you alluded to, 25 year warranties leave me cold too. Most companies are not around in 25 years time. So from whom are you going to claim your warranty? The world if full of liars, damn liars, and statistics.
