The Liberals costings and announcements were better than anything the Labor party ever did. They should be given the opportunity to see how good their predictions were. But unfortunately Labor have decided to do everything they can to block the changes that the Liberals want to introduce, so we will never know the answer to that.
It is disgusting that we have a Labor party who
a) Won an election in 2007 and refused to do in office what they promised.
b) Won an election in 2010 and did what they promised they would not do
c) Lost an election in 2013 and are doing everything they can to prevent the government of the day from implimenting the policy they took to an election
Labor have went to three election now and refused to do what the people voted for. Utter contempt for the will of the people them to do.
PPL
Gross cost of PPL 9.8 billion
less
existing govt scheme 3.7 Billion
existing commonwealth and state schemes 1.2 Billion
Automatic adjustments to govt spending
and revenue 1.6 Billion
Levy 1.5% on companies taxable income
over $5 million 4.4 Billion
Positive impact on budget 1.1 Billion

We should wait until the scheme is implemented to see how accurate the Liberals predictions are, but the bottom line is a cost of 5.5 Billion seems at best unrealistic
Charging an up front payment was a Labor idea introduced by Hawke. All the evidence confirms medicare is abused by people and an up front payment will reduce/stop the abuse. Exempting pensioners and the first 12 visits for a family is a reasonable approach. It should be implemented and assessed and the politics left at the door for the National interest.
The coalitions schools policy released August 2013
The Coalition will:
• ensure Commonwealth schools funding committed by Labor for school year 2014 will flow to all States and Territories irrespective of whether they have signed a deal with the Rudd-Gillard Government;
• amend the Australian Education Act to ensure the States, Territories and non-government sectors keep authority for their schools; and
• match the Commonwealth funding for schools committed by Labor over the forward estimates.
Seems like they have done what they said they would. The rest is politics
Labor said the Catholics had signed up they had not. So labor lied
Labor said some states had signed up and it turns out they did not. Labor lied
Because some states did not sign up Labor took the money from them and put it back into general revenue. The politicking over this was immoral. But the reality is the Liberals got the other states on board when Labor could not. WA for example refused to hand over control of the education system to Canberra. For the Labor Government to withhold funding from states and disadvantage children in order to force states to give up states rights is immoral.
The carbon tax is an additional tax that business can not afford. Getting rid of it will make business more cost competitive with the rest of the world.
