The reality is that energy companies don't want to invest in new baseload coal-fired power stations whether they are dirty or clean. Nor do they want to invest in the maintenance of existing coal-fired power stations.
The mix is relevant particularly if you can foresee a dramatic decrease in the cost cycles of a technology; this is the case with renewables.
