Five things worth considering when deciding whether to get vacinated.

    1. Current numbers from NSW show of the 66 people in ICU, 59 are not vaccinated and seven have had one dose. No one currently in ICU or requiring ventilation has been fully vaccinated.

    2. A Public Health England analysis of about 14,000 cases found that two doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine was about 92 per cent effective against hospitalisation from the Delta variant. Pfizer was 96 per cent effective.

    3. Iceland, which has 93 per cent of the population 16 years of age or older vaccinated, reported 2,783 cases over the past 30 days — its largest wave since the pandemic began. (Infections in Iceland spiked following the removal of Covid restrictions.) Yet Iceland has had no deaths for the past 30 days attributed to COVID.

    4. Australia can expect a similar large spike in infections once everyone has had the opportunity to be vaccinated and Covid restrictions are removed or reduced, probably in the first half of 2022.

    5. The delta virus is extremely infectious. Those who choose not to get vacinated may not be able to rely on herd immunity.
