Lithium use graph above does not mention the Buffalo New York SolarCity's new Gigafactory that Tesla and Panasonic are buying for 2.6 Billion to produce 10,000 solar panels a day which will replace conventional roofing systems and store the electricity in lithium batteries. The sale is dependent on Tesla shareholder agreement next month which is expected to be approved. The aim is to use Lithium batteries which are produced by Tesla/Panasonic Gigafactory1 in Nevada with the new highly efficient solar panels. Could this use of lithium exceed the use by vehicles and grid storage? you bet it could as the cost of home/industry installation plummets with Musk in charge.
New York State is providing $750 Million for the construction. The factory is very competitive with Chinese production due to the fact that the manufacturing process takes only six steps compared to the current 24+ steps. It also replaces silver with copper which is far less expensive.
