IMO the conspiracy theories ARE the most plausible. Li will be the new oil sooner than most people think, so big business, oil companies, govts all want control/ownership or to try and kill/slow the transfer of power if it threatens their power base. If that is true, then how would they best go about it? Spend a relatively small amount of money to trash Li SP to slow growth and so buy control at cheaper prices. Perhaps the big four Li producers are also not above dirty tactics to slow competitors entering the market. They are undoubtably employing some professional trolls on HC.
Sounds like tinfoil hat territory but I suspect its more like cold war. The parties mentioned above have expert advisors and would be ahead of us early adopters in their own conclusions and plans with multi-tier strategies.
Then, less dramatic, is the well funded shorters (but probably including those mentioned above) there for the trading profits because of the easily maniplated volatility.
