I can't help but wonder whether your view of this matter would be so sanguine if a Labor government leased a strategic asset to a hostile foreign power. I rather suspect the arrangement would be construed as a betrayal of our sovereignty bordering on treason, a reading that wouldn't be entirely unreasonable.
