the industrial methods of the Party Machines choose their candidates carefully. the criteria for preselection relates primarily fund-raising, networking and rhetoric. nothing to do with ethics or morality, intelligence or life achievement (other than applies to the aforesaid criteria).

Dastyari was a greedy fool, willing to take the $$$s and say whatever was asked of him. he's a prime example of the idiocy and futility of party politics.
