Sitting on a plane the other day reading a business mag when I came across an article which inadvertently seemed to address a small reservation I have had about CNN regarding their products to date. They seemed to be small ticket items which made me think how many different items and how many of each individual item are they going to have to sell to make a profit for shareholders.

The article was about a mega company ($3.2 b net income 2009 ) called 3M which made things like scotch tape, post it notes etc etc. Some intrigiung stats.

They produce a mind boggling 55000 products.

1 trillion diaper tape tabs have been sold in the US

40000 global patents (25% in the US)

Business model built on new product innovation to continually replace outmoded items

Just something that has personaly given me a bit more heart for a while longer.
