    cmte,

you will always find the greater more profound meaning in any of the sacred writings as soon as you rid yourself of the concept that it all about what happens "out there". The real action is to do with what happens within you. The word meek originally meant "power under control" or "gentleness with power". The meek person may appear serene on the surface and this serenity may be mistaken for weakness yet at the same time he has become the master of his inner dominion.....However, as sometimes happens, the meaning of the word meek has morphed in modern times to simply mean weak or submissive....we seemed to have lost that part of the meaning that refers to that greater control of inner power.

Jesus also said "the kingdom of heaven is within you". So the mission of the spiritual person is not to conquer, or even concern themselves with the "outer" world but rather to become a master of the world within himself. In other words to become meek.

Lao Tzu gives us a similar message in the Tao Te Ching when he says "He who controls others may be powerful, but he who has mastered himself is mightier still."

Don't even get me started on what the Bhagavad Gita has to say on this theme or else we will be here all night.
