The Constitution currently in draft form suggests that times may be changing to reform Somalia's social structure. The near future may see the formation of small and large independent states, one for which Puntland has prepared itself for with establishment of the Oil Law.
Regardless of how the Oil Law was established, Puntlanders and mainstream Somalians recognise that their oil is a god given resource which they would like to utilise to boost their economy, so that their children can enjoy a better quality of life. They also want a stronger education system and they want better infrastructure. Socio-econmic development is therefore the key to addressing current instability.
The UN's role in Somalia goes beyond emergency aid. Intervention programs include those that are aimed at developing the nation.
Regardless of who wins the election, the people of Puntland and Somalia have faith in governance 'for the common good'.
