Geelong waste plant.
MHM metals, one of last years market darlings, yesterday announced the commissioning of a processing plant near Geelong to turn aluminium waste into tradable resources. The plant will process 60,000 tonnes a year of Alcoa's salt slag.
Executive director Ben Mead said the company hoped it would be a platform for a more lucrative business in the US. Aluminium producers in the US produced 40 times more than the Australian producers, and MHM aimed to have multiple contracts in place within three months to supply a planned $20 million processing plant in the US he said.
