A Recent development where the ministry of mining got 52 parliamentarians to support a special session, set to occur in the coming days, in the parliament about what to do in regards to the "codelco crisis" specifically the article says the session is "due to the decrease in its production and its serious consequences for the future of the company and the impact on public finances of the State of Chile." The article talks about how the problems in codelco are large and wide ranging and mostly are due to its lack in new project development of its copper infrastructure.

The last two paragraphs of the article is where it is interesting and potentially relates to the current situation in the Maricunga salar.
The sum of these bad policies and erratic strategic decisions will make the company lose its status as the main copper producing company in the world, to the point that in 2022 the Copper Corporation delivered less financial resources to the Treasury than the private Sqm for the lithium production that it leases to Corfo.

The ultimate goal of this special session does not only seek to unravel the responsibilities of what happened over time; but fundamentally to ensure that Codelco is allowed to recover its leadership and that, in addition to reinventing itself as a large mining corporation, leading green mining, it can also exploit lithium and that it can, in addition to once again being a great lever for national economic and social progress, contribute to the fight for climate change on the planet, where our minerals are fundamental.

I am hoping that one of the things that is cleared up by this session is the CEOL expansion request from codelco that was accepted for processing by the ministry of mining last fall.

Also SIMCO, or Cominor, presented a letter to the ministry of mining on Dec 8th. The article is a response to the ministry of mining in regards to the processing of the CEOL expansion request. An article was published yesterday about the contents of this letter.
