While scarcely likely to register on the Richter scale, there have been some sub-surface rumblings at Ipernica this morning. The stock has been moribund for months but it has had an upsurge in price and buy depth this morning for no obvious reason. The stock is up over 7% and some 400,000 have traded - chickenfeed for most stocks but perhaps significant for this minnow.
Could a settlement with Ericsson (or one of the other parties that IPR has been pursuing) be in the offing? These legal cases move at a pace that makes glaciers appear reckless, so I'm not holding my breath just yet. If a settlement is close though, it could be juicy since the back-payment of royalties for the infringed patents stretch over many years.
Can anyone shed any light? It is probably nothing more than punters prepared to bid on a positive outcome to the mediation in October but it's unusual to see bids of 300,000 shares appear suddenly and chase the stock up. 'Urgency' and 'Ipernica' are two words seldom found in the same sentence.
As the Guinness man used to say, 'I like to watch...'
Good luck all.
