Judging by the trading pattern here is my theory.

The deal is still going ahead and is IMO imminent (like a day or two away)
The spike to 2c was caused by daytraders jumping on and overshooting the price.
The dump yesterday was the same exiting.
The consolidation at 1.6-1.7c today has shown the longer term market believes the deal is close.

I expect once the deal is announced that the road blockers at 2c will magically disappear.

After deal 2c is almost a certainty IMO.
