Unfortunately Immd, I think you are right, that the energy transition actually makes emissions and the climate crisis worse. If we are lucky it will slow it down slightly compared to the fossil fuel free-for-all that got us here. The nub of it is that we have to burn too much coal and oil to make the solar panels to stop us from burning coal and oil.

The initial post in this thread complained about "virtue" while also touting a "triumph for vision" of affordable green energy. It's a faith-based position. A "triumph for vision" is a quintessentially hollow, insubstantial concept. The "vision thing" is another form of virtue signalling.

But when I complain about the proponents of renewable energy, don't think for a second that I am siding with crazy flat earther types who deny that the climate crisis is real. The climate crisis is real, all right, and we will be seeing a lot worse in our lifetimes.... more droughts, more fires, more floods, more extreme weather, more intolerable heat waves. 2023 has been a shocker - Canada on fire, hot tub oceans, countless temperature records broken, sea ice vanishing. The rise in emissions has been exponential, we should be ready for the effects to worsen exponentially too.

The time for meaningful mitigation is long past. Collectively, we have not acknowledged that, but I urge everyone to prepare for very bad times ahead.
