Booked months and months ago, I was looking forward to a cruise up the coast of Norway and a possible sighting of the Northern Lights. I knew the chances were slim but On the night of our particular trip into the wilderness away from the city lights, the clouds had cleared for the first time in days. This is what I was expecting or hoping to see. (photo from the net).

When we arrived, the crowd were very upbeat. There was a band of "mist" forming a rainbow shape in the sky. It was just a white misty colour but the crowd were all suggesting it would happen soon. It was freezing; minus 15 or so and after waiting 45 minutes my fingers could hardly deal with any of the camera buttons. Viewing the "mist" with the camera showed nothing. I kept retreating to a teepee where there was a fire, to try to warm my hands. When I went outside again, there was still just a white mist. But it was changing. It was dancing and kept changing shape. But there were no colours. NONE. Luckily I heard someone else wondering out aloud when all the colours would start. The answer was a shock. You don't see any colours. The colours are only seen in your photos. WHAT, I muttered to myself. I've been freezing my butt off for an hour; the lights have been working; but because I didn't know, I hadn't been shooting any footage. I started snapping but it wasn't long before the show was over. I was so pissed off. Back on the ship I surveyed dozens of people at every dinner event. None knew the lights were invisible to the naked eye.
Did you?? Lesson learnt. I didn't do enough research.

A couple of shots I got from a screen display at the site; hense the strange lines.
