    yes of course i have been referred to as a farang but not 'hello mr farang'. The same as im sure many orientals here in oz have been referred as an asian. Its not a derogatory term either. The chinese are much more nationalistic to the extreme, many int students still bring their red book with them on holidays. When u hear 'gui lo' thats their term for a foreigner, or 'ghost'. But like every country including oz, every person is unique and u cannot stereotype a whole region or country (which is racist in itself).
