I thought I would start a thread to put information about the new port that is planned to go in at Chongoene, it is not just a port but also a massive industrial park/s and also rail line feeding into it

I do agree that the plans have gone on for a long time but when you are wanting to spend $3.5 billion on a port and a total of $7 billion on the whole project (port and industrial park) you know it will take it's time, add into that it's in Mozambique which is a very paperwork heavy country and more recently COVID.

I've been hearing bits and pieces from people I know in Mozambique over time, I treat a lot of it as speculation but it seems as usual the things I had been hearing were right.

It's come to a bit of a head recently, but this has also made information easier to find out, below is the planned layout for the port and industrial park:

As you can see it's a decent-sized project, it is being built to serve the whole region and will be able to take Post-Panamax ships and they are huge

Something is needed like this in the area, the Port of Maputo is to the South but in the middle of the city, the Port of Inhambane is to the North, but is very small and in an estuary, plus right in the city of Inhambane. I do understand that Maputo has space if needed.

So how has it come to a head, well the Chinese company DingSheng has basically tried to make their own road through land they don't own with no licences etc, they also recently came out last month saying that they will get licences in the next few days to build a dock. This hasn't happened and they are also up in court for starting to build a road.

You can run these press articles through google translate to give you an understanding of what is planned and what DingSheng have been up to, I use the Chrome browser for this:

So why is this new port good for MRG Metals?? Well it would give MRG one of the lowest costs possible, they are basically a few km away from the new port!!! You can see from the roughly marked up maps just how close the bottom of the Corridor South tenement is to the port ~2km to industrial park/8km to wharf

Now I know this is Africa and this is why DingSheng think they can get away with what they have done, but the STT (the company set up to build the port/industrial park) is pushing the case against DingSheng and it doesn't look goof for them in my view. My gut tells me this port and industrial park will be built in the stages planned and will be a huge benefit to the whole region, everyone has their own opinion though

Mutamba Minerals is the Rio/Savannah JV:

I can see it only going one way and it's not in DingShengs favour, which would thus mean in my view lowest costs possible for MRG Metals
