We have been using these bulbs for years in every light socket except in the range hood. Have had no probs and I can't recall ever breaking one. One of the local electrical stores here recycle the ones that die of old age so the Hg is not what has caused my memory to fade.
The long life bulbs come in a couple of colours. We prefer "cool daylight" over "warm white". When they are first used, the light builds up over several minutes but after then they work fine. We have found a noticeable power savings.
