I am not an accountant and not a trader however we reconcile to market each year both our private holdings and our SMSF.
I am very conservative financially and have instructed my accountants never to use financial structures to minimise tax. Maybe this is not widely used. It has the benefit of also bringing my loses to account and sometimes that is substantial just not this year fortunately.
