I usually shop around when I get my annual renewal> It's amazing how the same cover for premiums can range from say $800 - $1600 for example.
My 22 year old daughter had ridiculous quotes for comprehensive car insurance when she took out her own car insurance, as she was under 25 and had been in a previous bingle. She eventually went with Progressive whose premium was under $800. They took into consideration her being a driver on my policy up until now. As I have a AA rating and have been with my car insurance company for more than 5 years she got the competitive quote and will get AA rating if she has no at fault claims in the next 12 months!
There are good companies out there with competitive premiums. I guess the others count on the fact most people are time poor and automatically renew their policies without checking around.
