As an SplitIt client, my experience was simple.
    1. bought a $2421.60 item online, selected SPT at the checkout
    2. SPT (eWAY) charged $403.60 as well as pre-authorising $2018 on the spot
    3. within a few days, the $2018 was returned as available credit to my card
    4. each month from that point onwards, they only charged the $403.60 amount
    5. after payment 6 it was all completed.

At no point did a see pre-auth on pre-auth.

Also, if a single purchase would max out my credit card then how else would I be able to buy an item?

Sounds like the person complaining was (a) ignorant of the process, (b) ignorant of how to read a credit card statement, and (c) an entitled Karen / Kevin.

To date I have only ever used any form of pay in installment services once so I can not claim to be an expert but, if I saw SPT at a checkout today, I would use it again.
