AUSTRAC is demanding a whopping A$400 million penalty for money laundering compliance failures. Star warns that anything above A$100 million could push it into insolvency.
So, while the Brisbane exit deal is a step forward, the real existential threat right now is that AUSTRAC penalty looming over their head. Overcoming that or not might determine whether Star truly turns a corner or goes under.
