In my travels around the world, well to Europe and North America, three countries stand out in how they treated arrivals and one of them I was only transiting. The two I entered were Australia and the USA. Both were equally obnoxious and pained processes. It was as though they didn't want you to enter. In the case of Aus I was a returning citizen. The third place I transited was Dubai and they were just as bad for transits, have zero desire to ever visit and select flights to avoid transit.
