Commercial companies are closing coal powered generation because they are coming to the end of their lives & they aren't viable to continue spending money on repairs to keep them going.
That's why State governments have to throw hundreds of millions at them to keep them going past their useful lives.
You really think decades old power stations can keep going indefinitely just by making a few repairs on them?
