The Mt Painter region in South Australia has over double the WHO limit for radiation in parts and the animals survive there.
The radiation level in and around Aberdeen in Scotland also exceeds WHO guidelines. And people have lived there over 1000 years.
I too believed that plutonium was a dangerous source of radiation with a very long half-life. I believed that crap. However about a decade ago I realised that if it has a long half-life, then the intensity of radiation coming from it is not high but moderate. It's not as dangerous as the doomsday cultist's try to make you believe.
