The attention-seeking media love to publish these sorts of articles to grab the attention of the hapless and unwitting fools, who then unquestioningly recycle it as some kind of "truth" [*].

Take this one, for example:




Global oil production was 84 mn barrels per day in 2006.
It is currently running at 105 mn barrels per day, a full 25% higher than the peak predicted for 2006.
