I ahve formed a growing conviction that there must have been a knock-down, drag-out fight inside the company over last week's ill advised and premature abandonment of a proven, efficacious, safe, and predictable drug. I can imagine the Board's disappointment at the trial results, but what happened next can only be explained as a form of corporate petulance.

Beyond that, I think I can suggest a very effective way to trial the drug.

Instead of any fixed diet, the subjects are given a weight loss goal, say 0.5 kg per week, for a period of 12 and 24 weeks. The participants are given wide ranging freedom as to the details of diet and/or exercise. The supervising physician measure progress and checks to make sure participants remain healthy.

The results can be tabulated in terms of absolute weight loss or in terms of success against goal. Either way, there would be no mistaking whether or not those on the drug did better, as they would have every opportunity to do so.

As things stand, the company has thrown away its main chance, and ours, based on data that demonstrates nothing whatsoever about the efficacy or action of AOD9604, except that it doesn't interfere with a closely monitored program of diet and exercise.

Explanations are owed.

And salvage operations must begin.
