many people I know who were looking to buy a property, have realised its much cheaper to rent than buy. Especially if you dont want to be stuck somewhere for a long period of time.
Eg. House price is say $350K ($330 plus $20k in fees etc)interest is (7% with chance of much higher) $24500 PA, plus council rates , etc another $2k so $26500 so its $510 per week.
They can rent the same house for $300-$350 per week. A minimum saving of $160 per week.
So they are $8k a year better off minimum....
Food for thought
