No it's not. CSIRO is much better known to the general public because it's a much larger and a far more diverse organisation, but when it comes to medical research, particularly in the fields related to immunology (which includes cancer) WEHI is right up there with the very best in the world with its focused 750 scientists. Historically WEHI played a big part in laying the foundations of modern immunology. Google Noble prize winner Sir Frank Macfarlane Burnet to see one of its finest scientists and leaders who helped found the modern institution as we now know it.
