Graphics is graphics .. whether it is legitimate geospatial data or fictitious game environments - it is still vertices (points), polygons, textures.
If you are looking at threats or opportunities, chances are gaming is ahead of you.
Gaming has always pushed hardware, algorithms, storage etc.
There are plenty of firms in the architecture and engineering spaces that use game engines in their visualistion pipelines.
