hey
@Treesonly imo, truth suffers from the same problems as reality,.
I see a truth and attempt to explain truth the way I see it, taking into account as many variables and points of view as I can see/imagine. but everyone has their own interpretation, haven't we seen this repeatedly on political and company threads? hahhee
this is where the new testament comes in as a philosophical work.... "But what is Truth?"
I can't trust even myself to understand either truth or reality.
even the brain has several (many) means of interpreting truth starting with the mid-brain body called the reticular activating system which makes decisions on what stimuli are necessary for the consciousness to be aware and rejects those stimuli that are assessed ad unimportant. and then there are the principle and subsidiary connections between different areas of the brain so that "habitual" understandings of truth/reality will be distorted to agree with pre-assumed perceptions of reality/truth...... and then of course there are our conscious preferences for perceiving reality. biases and beliefs that are conscious will alter perception as well.
working in psychiatry for several years, as a nurse, and trying to understand how people with psychosis believe what are called delusions deepens the mystery. Some are distortions of half remembered fears expanded to be inclusive of large Govt (or other key authoritative bodies) figures which symbolise more personal figures, such as parents, teachers or any who caused the person to feel shame or humiliation (some perceived personal injury), Others can be personal attributes that the individual fears aren't good and perception then becomes a shield used to protect oneself from feelings of shame and thus externalise the person's causes for shame and projects those traits onto others (projection).
the beliefs I puzzled over most though were those who believed in a fantasy reality/truth - an entirely fabricated "dreamworld" that reverts to infantile magical beliefs, such as reality of Santa Claus (a concrete singular figure) or other magic which grants them special powers of perception or significant powers, such as martial arts, flight in sleep, the ability to decode television to deliver special messages which leave the individual feeling as if "chosen" to receive the secret messages.
one day I found we had 3 guys who claimed to be Jesus. they were arguing loudly in the courtyard about which of them was the real Jesus. the argument was becoming fierce when one asked "and what gives you the right to be Jesus" to which another answered "God told me I am The Lord..." whereupon a 4th person, a young woman, piped up saying "I Did NOT!"
all 4 were then so confused as the woman wasn't their "reality" of god. hahahehe
