    a simple explanation....
    Melbourne has its own mighty yarra river running through the middle of it...and that river is allowed to run out to sea...no dams, no pipes to divert some of that water where it is needed in the city...

    there has been a drought for over 15 years, which has had a huge affect on central nsw and vic....
    which in turn means the river systems in those areas are badly affected...have very little water left...
    people living in those towns rely on those rivers for their only supply of water....
    the farmers in those areas grow food, which supplies the nation
    the Vic govt.. at a massive cost to taxpayers, have installed pipes, to take the little bit of water that is left in the Goulburn river, 100's of miles away, and pump it down to Melb..
    can you see the sense in that....the yarra river , in the middle of this city, is running full....and its left to run out to the sea...
    the goulburn river is almost empty...but regardless, the pollies decided it is better to take the water away from those towns and farms....and leave them in the lurch, without water...
