Got a mate who was working for a major ultra class machine supplier in West Africa - he was in a convoy of several semis relocating a couple of 250t excavators from one pit to another, a distance of around 20 kms….
The fleet was hit by a mob of 9 bandits wielding automatic weapons - the convoy had arm d security accompanying it and after the ensuing fire fight the convoy continued on its way, leaving in its wake 9 dead bandits, 2 injured (gunshot wounds) security guards and several pairs of soiled undergarments….
My mate, who was earning in excess of US$300K + bonuses, left his job half way through his 8 week roster, got on the 1st available flight out of Ghana to Perth via anywhere and failed to ever return…I don’t know about you but Ive done a couple stints in the Pilbara in my 35+ years in mining and I have yet to witness anyone get shot and killed, or any mobs of land pirates trying to steal any mining fleet…,
So it’s Oz all the way for me..
