Having read a NSW ELECTRICITY STRATEGY REPORT it's clearly evident that in Australia, the worlds biggest gas exporter, that there's going to be a a severe gas shortage on Australia's east coast. Attached is a paragraph from that report that gives me confidence that we're definitely on a winner here.
Natural gas
27. Most natural gas extracted in Australia is exported. Australia is the world’s largest exporter of
liquefied natural gas72
. Increased demand for natural gas and diminished availability of it has
led to large increases in its price73
. “Gas-fired power stations generate electricity on demand
with about half the level of emissions from coal” (i.e. without carbon capture and storage) but
have “high input costs” so they are typically operated during peak demand or when solar and
wind are not generating”74
. In fact, the cost of onshore natural gas in eastern Australia is double
the cost of shale gas in the USA and double the cost of mining most Australian black coal75
.
