- an essential characteristic for a self, that is subject to suffering, to decrease
can remember some so-called verse about good religion - something like looking after widows etc
for a long time, i never understood it, and didn't like it, because it didn't mention "god"
the words "pure and undefiled" come to mind as well
now i can see that this hits the mark, spot on - it points to where the real action is.
not just looking after widows or orphans, but having/showing compassion for all suffering beings (including yourself) even as they may spit on, mock, backstab, or beat you.
how many are religiously cultivating that kind of power?
that is the kind of religion that is worthwhile
harmless happiness
easier said than done
but the more that it is done, the easier it becomes - naturally
