I noticed a Hollywood celeb has just "come out" as trans-something, but the thing that caught my attention was her, sorry his statement that the pronouns "he" and "they" were now the preferred choice of this person. Could someone please explain to this confused observer how it is possible to apply the plural pronoun "they" to a person and in what circumstances one would apply it.
