The wording is quite simple to read & understand so why twist/allegorize it ?

I understand what it says Z, Revelation 13:16–18 describes the "MOTB" as a sign that people are compelled to receive, symbolizing allegiance to the Antichrist. The passage itself uses straightforward language: it speaks of a mark, a name, or a number, and emphasizes the importance of wisdom in understanding its significance.

While the language is simple, the interpretations can be complex because the passage operates on multiple levels—literal, symbolic, historical, and spiritual. Different traditions and scholars find value in various approaches, aiming to understand its message in a way that resonates with the theological perspectives of all scripture and salvation.

Interpretations of this passage vary widely among scholars, theologians, and different Christian traditions. Some see the "MOTB" as a literal mark, chip or tattoo, while others view it as a symbolic representation of allegiance, loyalty, or conformity to evil powers or societal systems that oppose God.

We need to interpret it all possible ways to grasp its full contexts allegorically or symbolically rather than literally? Several reasons include, for example:

Throughout history, apocalyptic texts like Revelation have often been understood symbolically, especially considering the persecution of early Christians by Roman authorities. The "mark" could represent participation in oppressive political systems or ideologies rather than a literal mark.

Revelation is an apocalyptic and highly symbolic. Its vivid imagery often uses symbols and allegories to convey spiritual truths or moral lessons, making literal interpretations sometimes inadequate or misleading.

Interpreting the mark as symbolic allows for a broader understanding of allegiance and idolatry—not just a physical mark but a metaphor for choosing worldly systems over divine authority.

The passage can be interpreted as a warning against idolatry and compromising faith, rather than predicting a specific future event. This encourages believers to remain faithful regardless of external pressures.

And of course, it could mean not only literal as you suggested but also a combination all of the above, as all the above can affect salvation
