Spinning Hard Drives are not really a consumer item anymore - most people would be enjoying the benefits in their devices of full solid state storage. Maybe some people still buy pocket drives or set up network attached storage devices that use a HDD, but it's a shrinking sector.
Hard Drives sit in servers and datacentres as backup storage, but how much longer will that last? I could see HDDs going the way of floppy disks.
Reminds me a bit of the proposed and kyboshed split of AGL. The plan was to cast off the legacy coal fired power stations into their own business and retain the retail and renewables assets in AGL. A means of quarantining the future of the business from the liabilities of the business.
