    As I explain it to my greenie son, USD are needed to pay for our stuff ( that is Toyotas etc etc)
    And we get these USD by exporting ( generally rocks or food, as we are too small and too far away to be manufacturers)
    Your industries generally do not earn big USD
    So how do we earn the USD if no mining ?

    sure we can develop some software ( in competition with the rest of the world) but will it earn the billions of hard currency necessary to pay for all of our imports ?

    I don't think so.
